Word of the Day: Preacher

A person who proclaims scripture in a public setting, such as in a church, or even on a street corner. Anyone can preach, without any degree or special education.

After his resurrection, Jesus told his followers to "go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Matthew 16:15). This direction to preach was passed on to the Apostles followers, and their followers, down through the centuries. To some extent, all Christians should share the gospel message (that Jesus was the Son of God who died for our sins and was resurrected). For some this comes in the form of witnessing, which is generally on a smaller scale, or even person-to-person, and centers on a Christian sharing their personal experience rather than the scripture. While no education is needed to preach, knowledge of the scripture is expected, both to speak beyond the gospel and to answer questions.
